Graduating Captain Joe Llewellyn heads to Sweden

OHA UK is pleased to confirm that graduate Joe Llewellyn has signed for Visby Roma in Sweden for the 2020/2021 season.

Head Coach Ryan Aldridge said “This photo makes me smile. Joe joined us 4 years ago from playing B league hockey and since then the effort that this young man has put in over the last 4 years is incredible. Both on and off the ice, he has continued to work tirelessly on his development.

“I am happy that both Joe and his family see the importance of him playing with his own age group and not jumping into senior hockey as most young players in the UK do. The move has been made possible by a group of people all looking out for the best interests and development for Joe. He is a Swindon born talented big D-man”.

“When we sat down to discuss his options early into lockdown we spoke with Aaron from the Swindon Wildcats and although Aaron would love for Joe to play in Swindon he has backed his decision to play with his own age group; I am sure the door will be left ajar in years to come if he decided to return to Swindon. The reason I chose to talk with Visby is I know Ken who runs the program and I know his passion for player development, especially developing Defencemen. I have no doubt that he will have a positive impact on Joe and his progression going forward.”

Joe spoke with us after his try out in Visby this weekend and said “It’s been great to be given the opportunity to come over to Sweden and get the chance to play. It wouldn’t have been possible without the development and training I received from OHA over the past four years. It has been a great experience but it is time for a new chapter that I’m excited to start in Visby with a new team and in a new country.”

Everyone at Okanagan Hockey Academy UK is delighted to see Joe further his career with Visby Roma & wish him all the success this season and in the future.
