13 Nov MATCH REPORT | OHA UK VS Swindon Academy | 10/11/18
Okanagan Hockey Are Held at Home. Saturday 11th November saw OHA UK match up for their second game of the season versus the top of the table Swindon. Okanagan looking to reverse their 6-3 loss in the previous game in October.
Period 1 – OHA v SWI
Coming off the back of their 18 day trip to Canada the Academy was looking to take their improvements throughout the tour into regular season action and got off to a strong start, really setting the tone of the game early on with several encouraging shifts, and some early chances on Swindon’s Netminder Brett Massey.
Oli Endicott and Carter Lloyd playing his first league game for OHA UK had great chances to give Okanagan the lead in the first period only to see Massey up to everything thrown at him, as OHA really started running up a shot count, with great Offensive zone work and quick transition from Defense. It took till late on in the first, before the deadlock was broken.
Okanagan breaking from their own end and a nice passing move saw Reed Sayers feed Oli Endicott who then found Jack Goodchild breaking in on goal to score with a finish across the goalie.
Period 2 – OHA v SWI
The second period saw the academy start well again before a penalty kill halted their early pressure.
Swindon was generating good chances on the Power Play, and finally tied the game up at 22.53 with a strong shot beating Max Licht in the OHA UK net.
It was to turn out to be another strong period however from Okanagan as they really took the game to Swindon and outshot their opponents heavily. Massey in the Swindon goal was in fine form keeping the score tied until 90 seconds from the end of the period.
A strong Offensive zone shift from Reed Sayers, Jake Williams and Carter Lloyd finally paid off on the scoreboard as Williams found Sayers who gave OHA a 2-1 lead with a cool finish.
Period 3 – OHA v SWI
The third period once again saw the Swindon team battle back however, and they always looked dangerous in attack.
Mason Lipsey tied the game at 2-2 at 46.37. He beat the OHA defence through the middle to redirect the puck home.
A response was needed, and again the Academy although short benched were generating a lot of offensive pressure.
At 49.07, OHA was again in the lead. Some good work from Lucas Arto. Luca wins a puck and put Jake Williams through cutting in off his off wing and finishing well.
Swindon showed their resilience once more. They continue to push Okanagan with less than five minutes remaining again found a game leveler.
After some continued pressure down low, Swindon worked the puck to the slot. They found an open player to slot past Licht in goal. And Swindon wasn’t done.
In the next shift, they were awarded a Penalty Shot after being brought down on a breakaway. Jay Warren taking but missing the net.
OHA finished the game with a 3-minute Powerplay, and controlled the puck well, creating several scoring chances.
But Massey in net finished strong and helping Swindon to earn a split of the points. OHA outshooting their opponents 66-21.
OHA UK will be back in action at the Link Centre Saturday 24th November versus Cardiff.
