28 Apr SPOTLIGHT ON JACK GOODCHILD
How has OHA helped you as a player and a person in the last 3 years?
As a player, the academy has helped me understand the different aspects of the game and understand how to become a better player. It has made me stronger, both mentally and physically and helps me keep a high level of fitness. Being at OHA has helped me learn the basic fundamentals of the game and specific details that are important for moving on in my career. As a person, it has made me more independent away from the rink especially at home and my parents can see the change. It has given me the confidence to be able to speak to new people from different areas and understand their cultures which is always good. It has given me great experiences that I could never get anywhere else.
What has been your favour it e Canadian trip?
My favourite Canadian trip would be the October 2018 to November 2018 one, this is because it was my first experience of the great facilities in Penticton, BC. The trip gave me an understanding of the culture of Candian families – being able to stay with billet families. The experience showed me the difference in the game and how physical the Canadian teams can be. I enjoyed travelling around Canada especially visiting Vancouver Island.
How has the virtual academy helped you?
I think the virtual academy has been great, it has given us a way of being able to stay in contact with the other players and staff, and to speak about certain subjects. It has helped me keep focus both with school work and off-ice fitness. Without it, I would lose focus.
What was your favourite game?
I think for me being injured for a while I have two personal favourites. The first would have to be the Slough home game on 18/1/20. This was because the boys had bounced back as a group and it was good to watch how they came together after losing against them previously.
However, another favourite would be Guildford away on 14/3/20. This was because although the team didn’t know it would be the last game of the season, it was great to see the boys come together in what ended up being the championship decider.
