Okanagan Ice Hockey Academy UK Call

Virtual Academy update

Our student-athletes have been lucky enough to have been involved in some amazing presentations since our last update.

We have also opened up a question and answer series with pro players and coaches after some of the presentations, so our student-athletes have real opportunity to engage. We have covered various topics during the presentations who have been hosted by Mark Fitzgerald-Nutrition Maco Balkovec-College Players Brayden and Luke Schenn-Life in the NHL Mike Ellis-Tampa Bay Lightning Skills Coach OHA-the process of change in Athlete DevelopmentPoints mean prizes-Alongside our presentations and for a little fun, we’ve held some hockey-based quiz’s, where the winner wins a baseball cap of their favorite NHL team.

Mike Ellis, Director of Skill Development for the Tampa Bay Lighting took some time out of his day to host a zoom call for all players of OHA UK. The call started with a 15-minute interview between Mike and Ryan where they got into the detail of Mike’s day-to-day role with the Lightning. The students then had as long as they wanted to ask as many weird and wonderful questions to Mike about the players he has worked with, the trophies and rings he has won, and his journey from the Bracknell Bees to the NHL. We’ll share a full round-up in our next email newsletter–which you can subscribe to in the footer on our website
